The gastronomic society of Türkiye conducted its first cultural and culinary excursion in Istanbul on April 30, 2024. The “Beyoğlu Art & Flavor Tour” included a visit to the Türkiye İş Bankası Painting and Sculpture Museum, opened on October 29, 2023, on İstiklal Avenue to celebrate the Republic’s centennial, with the esteemed member of gastronomic society member , Prof. Gül İrepoğlu, as the founding curator. Located in the historic Boudouy (Bodvi) Apartment, which served as the Türkiye İş Bankası Beyoğlu Branch from 1953 to 2016, the museum’s permanent exhibition, titled “Watching Turkish Painting,” sheds light on the development of Turkish painting and sculpture. The member of gastronomic society explored this selection curated from the Türkiye İş Bankası Art Collection, as well as the temporary exhibition “The Art of Istanbul,” which presents paintings in the concept of an Istanbul journey, accompanied by Gül İrepoğlu’s detailed narration. Following the museum visit, they enjoyed lunch at Hodan, run by chef Çiğdem Seferoğlu, within walking distance from İstiklal Avenue. In Hodan’s tranquil garden, they indulged in panelled artichokes, stuffed meatballs, purslane salad, and crispy stone oven specialties, among other delights.
